The winter guide
A warmer home in four simple steps
No big projects, no engineers. Just the practical order we'd tackle a cold room in — and the bits that help with each step.

01
Wake the radiators up
Dust between the fins and trapped air both stop a radiator giving its best. Sweep the dust out with a long brush, then bleed off any trapped air once the system is cold.

02
Stop the sneaky draughts
Most of the chill in a room creeps in around doors, windows, letterboxes and unused chimneys. Sealing those gaps is the cheapest, quickest job on the list.

03
Add cosy layers
A thermal door curtain over a cold hallway and a deep throw on the sofa change how a room feels in minutes. Soft layers do a lot of quiet work.

04
The little comforts
For the coldest evenings, the small things matter most: a hot water bottle, a warm pouch for cold feet, and a touch of moisture for dry heated air.
